In early June, we reported that the skyline in Auburn Hills was about to change in our blog “Massive Dome Near GLC Outlets … Coming Down.” Today, it finally happened. The landmark dome located at 3951 Joslyn Road was purposely deflated and is no more.

The owners had originally planned to sell the air-supported structure to a group in Minnesota, but that deal fell through. Since the dome fabric was nearing the end of its life cycle, the owners had little choice but to scrap the material and throw it away. It’s estimated that 177,000 sq. ft. of fabric weighing 42 tons will be sent to neighboring landfills.
The demolition and clean up process should take three weeks to complete.
