Camping in Auburn Hills? At the E. Dale Fisk Hawk Woods Nature Center there is a hidden gem: a group of six rustic cabins that are available for rent from May 1st to October 31st. Five of the cabins sleep six on pine bunks with a comfortable mattress on each. New this year is a 10 person cabin complete with a dining table and sofa. All the cabins have ceiling fans and screened windows so they won’t get stuffy.
During the day enjoy Hawk Woods 80 acres of woods, groomed hiking trails, marsh boardwalk and huge oak trees. And in keeping with the name, there always seems to be a hawk or two drifting above the trees. At the end of the day, one can clean up in the clean restrooms complete with showers. Then go relax by the campfire and watch the sky turn to stars.
All this for $30 for residents ($40 for non-residents) per night. The new 10 person cabin is $50 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Call Auburn Hills Parks and Recreation at 248-370-9353 for details and availability. Perfect for scouts, youth organizations, church groups, even a corporate retreat.
Hawk Woods is located at 3799 Bald Mountain Road in the northern section of Auburn Hills, but you’ll swear you’re up north in the great Michigan forest.
