Home repairs can be expensive and complicated.  So much so, that needed repairs are sometimes put off – which only makes matters worse.  To help homeowners struggling with this situation, Auburn Hills participates in the Minor Home Repair Program.

The program is designed to help residents who need assistance with smaller projects around the house that they’re unable to perform themselves. Once the resident is found eligible, the process begins with the collection of three bids and is then assigned to a qualified licensed contractor.  Projects include handicap ramps, new exterior steps, deck structure repair, handicap shower/bathroom accessories, and even some electrical and plumbing issues.

Funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), the 41-year-old program financially assists local communities, like Auburn Hills, with helping residents with minor repairs.  Projects must be consistent with broad national priorities such as preventing blight or where there is a health and safety issue.

The City’s efforts has helped many residents; such as Jessica Paredes.  Jessica and her daughter live here in Auburn Hills and their deck was in need of some minor repairs.  One of our contractors for the program, Auburn Hills based Peak Construction, helped Jessica get the project done.  Jessica’s deck and steps were in dire need of repair, to the point of a safety issue.  Peak Construction went to work!  Replaced the deck boards, repaired the deck’s structure, and replaced the stairs. Jessica and her daughter can now enjoy their outside seating area once again without any safety fears.
