The Auburn Hills Community Center would like to introduce our new mascot, Sammy Seyburn! In January, we held a “Name the Bear” contest. Patrons were invited to give us a name suggestion to be in the running to win a gift card. We received just under one hundred entries and then held a poll to have people vote for their favorite. Sammy Seyburn was a Community Center favorite with 36% of the votes.
For those unfamiliar with the Seyburn name, you will find it as a namesake for our banquet room. Wesson Seyburn was the husband to Winifred Dodge from the historic Dodge family of Dodge Automotive. The Seyburns were the original owners of the property in which the Community Center sits upon, now called the Auburn Hills Civic Center. The property was originally built for the Seyburns to use as a country estate. The estate included hunting land, dog kennels, a swimming pool, horse stables, and a 5,000 square foot Colonial Revival home (our old Community Center building).
If you get the chance, head over to the Community Center to say hi. We have been told he gives great hugs!
