I started running for exercise right around the time I started working for the City of Auburn Hills.  I’m no distance runner (10k is as far as I’ve made it) so 5k races are right up my alley.

Hope Water Project, an organization dedicated to providing clean drinking water to people in Western Kenya and Sierra Leone, is hosting their second 5K Race in Auburn Hills on Saturday, June 4^th.  I missed last years’ race because I had already committed to running a different one.  This year, I won’t miss it.  Event coordinator, Bill Clark contacted me after the event last summer to let me know that over 770 participants “raised enough money to put a well in Kenya that will provide fresh water to thousands of people, for life.”

We talked again yesterday and he mentioned that registration numbers this year are significantly higher than last year at this time.  They are expecting a great turn-out for the event.  The course, which begins and ends in the Delphi parking lot (located off University Drive, just east of I-75) is family-friendly and open to strollers.  On-line registration is open until June 2^nd.

Clean water is a basic human need that we expect and assume will be there for us every day, but millions of people around the globe are not as fortunate.  We wish Hope Water Project a very successful (and fun!) run.
