When you think of Italy, I bet you think of romantic gondola rides, fashion, wine and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Who knew that Italian companies were leading the design and engineering of vehicles.
I had the opportunity to attend the Italian Technological Excellence in the U.S. (ITEUS) symposium hosted by the College of Engineering at Wayne State University. The event showcased Italian companies in Michigan that are leading the way for autonomous vehicle technology, powertrain systems, robotics and bio-medical engineering.
It was especially exciting to hear presentations from two Auburn Hills-based companies; Magneti Marelli and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). Both companies gave us a glimpse of the latest and greatest innovative technologies in automotive R&D. It was fascinating to hear about the technological advances being made and how regulations and sustainability practices are changing the landscape of the automotive industry.
As part of the event, there was a job fair for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) students that featured internships, co-ops and jobs. This also gave them an opportunity to develop a network of contacts in the industry.
