As the next installment for the results of the citizen survey, I thought I would talk about everyone’s favorite subject: ROADS.
The results are encouraging and something I am pleased to be sharing. For the question: How would you rate the condition of streets in your neighborhood? Citizens responded as follows:
- Men: Excellent (12%), Good (52%), Fair (26%), and Poor (11%)
- Women: Excellent (10%), Good (50%), Fair (30%), and Poor (10%)
For the question: How would you rate the condition of major roads in Auburn Hills? Citizens responded as follows:
- Men: Excellent (7%), Good (49%), Fair (30%), and Poor (14%)
- Women: Excellent (6%), Good (57%), Fair (31%) and Poor (6%)
In light of the constant scrutiny over roads in Michigan and their condition, we feel quite pleased that about 9 out of 10 of our citizens rate our neighborhood streets Fair or better and the results for our major roads are also similar. However, citizens were also allowed to make individual comments about road conditions. It is difficult to determine if the major roads they commented about, in some cases harshly, are those under the jurisdiction of the City, the County, or the State. As citizens, you may think that every road within the corporate boundaries of Auburn Hills belong to the City. They do not. For example, roads like Opdyke and Brown belong to the Road Commission for Oakland County. But roads like North Squirrel and University Drive belong to Auburn Hills.
