Developers Are Betting Millions On Growth

Posted by – Shawn Keenan, Assistant City Planner

Over the past five years, the City of Auburn Hills has witnessed numerous companies outgrow their existing facilities due to increased business associated with the recovery of the economy.  In some instances, companies are fortunate to have enough property to expand.  However, there are those that are unable to expand which requires them to find a larger existing facility, or build a new one, to meet their projected growth.  If you follow this blog you may know that our community has strategically positioned itself as an attractive place to invest, thus many industrial developers are constructing multi-million dollar buildings without signed tenants anticipating this demand.

A good example of this trend is the new $9 million, 137,560 square foot light industrial building taking shape at the northeast corner of Continental and Harmon Roads.  The project was approved by the City Council in September 2016.

Construction crews are in the process of finishing the masonry work inside the building, and once that work is complete all the windows and glass will be installed.  If all goes according to plan, the facility will be fully enclosed by March and the core-shell should be complete by late Spring and ready to be customized to meet its future tenant’s needs.

We’ll be sure to let you know once a tenant is secured for the building.  Based on the strength of our local economy, it’s just a matter of time.
