If you’ve stepped foot on any of our city’s campuses, you may have noticed bright pink salt scattered across our sidewalks and parking lots. What’s so interesting about this salt you may ask?

Our Public Works team recently made a switch and purchased the new salt from a local landscaping supplier as part of our seasonal re-evaluation of products and prices. Established in 2010, Hot Pink Deicer is based out of in Brighton, MI., and was created to help families struggling with the emotional and financial burdens that come from a breast cancer diagnosis. Each year they award several families in Southeast Michigan with a portion of the proceeds they make from selling the deicer.

Not only does this purchase go toward a good cause, but it is also a more cost-effective choice for the City. The purchase of the pink salt is saving us about $50 per pallet.

We also love the fact that we can support a local Michigan business and provide the taxpayer with the best value possible at the same time.

Kudos to our grounds department for this awesome find and keeping the standard of excellence high in Auburn Hills!
