In mid-February, Oakland University Student Congress (OUSC) and Student Program Board (SPB) hosted their “Walk the OC in Their Shoes” event to raise awareness on sexual assault.

The event was based on the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event, which was created as a way for men to start the conversation about sexual assault by walking a mile wearing women’s heels,” Mackenzie Hill, SPB Special Events Director said.

To make the event more inclusive, Hill reached out to the Auburn Hills Fire Department who donated a few sets of firefighter boots for students to walk in at the event so both male and female victims of sexual assault would be recognized.
“I was most impressed with the attitudes; students were open-minded and really supportive of the display,” Firefighter Bre Deming said.
Firefighters Bre Deming, Dane Hazleton, and Nolan Taylor also attended the event to support the cause.
