2020 Egg Hunt Done a Different Way

In doing our part to slow the spread of coronavirus, sadly, we had to cancel our annual Egg Hunt and Bonnet Contest this year. We were faced with a minor problem of already having received the pre-filled eggs for the event, many of which were filled with candy and would not last for a full year.

The Recreation Department worked quickly to see if the eggs could be distributed with weekly food pick-ups through the schools. Over spring break for Avondale schools, The River Church in Auburn Hills was the designated place for families to get food. Recreation Coordinator, Mandy Mullins, got the thumbs up to provide bags of eggs to give to families for their own at-home egg hunts!

531 bags with 12 pre-filled eggs and a card asking people to do an egg hunt in their own home or yard were handed out. We hope it was a welcome extra with the essentials that families received.

We also missed the bonnet contest so there is a virtual one happening on the Auburn Hills Recreation Facebook page. People are encouraged to create a bonnet, take a picture and add it to the Facebook post for a chance to win one free week of day camp this summer (winners’ choice of morning or afternoon camp). While each bonnet is an entry to win, the categories for inspiration are best Auburn Hills Spirit, Most Creative, Prettiest, Most Patriotic, and Most Comical. Below are a few of last year’s winners for even more inspiration. Entries must be posted by Saturday, April 18th by 8 pm to be included in the drawing.

Good luck to all!

Mandy Mullins, Recreation Coordinator
