Eugene Hawkins III, a 25-year resident of Auburn Hills, was appointed last evening to the Auburn Hills City Council, filling the vacancy created by Councilmember Ron Moniz. Mr. Hawkins is the Agent/Owner of a State Farm Insurance Agency in Pontiac and has over thirty years of professional experience in insurance and financial services. A graduate of both Michigan State University and Central Michigan University, Mr. Hawkins brings to City Council a valuable combination of education and experience that will serve him and the community well. In addition to his current service to Auburn Hills as Chairman of the Public Safety Advisory Committee as well as being a member of the board of directors of the Tax Increment Finance Authority, Mr. Hawkins is engaged in many volunteer activities including the Auburn Hills Rotary Club, president of the Hunt Club Homeowners Association, the Pontiac Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Pontiac Kappa Foundation, and Pontiac Youth Assistance which assists Auburn Hills students and families attending Pontiac Schools. Mr. Hawkins is a Reserve Deputy with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department and in 2018 was selected by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police to serve as a Commissioner on the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. He and his wife Rae have been married for twenty-seven years and they have one son, Isaiah.
