This year’s 17th Annual Auburn Hills Fishing Derby was on Saturday on June 12th, at Riverside Park. This year’s event had 75 young anglers test their fishing skills to catch one or more of the 875 rainbow trout released in the Clinton River.
Even though fewer fish were caught this year, everyone who attended was excited to enjoy the great outdoors with family and friends. Those new to fishing were more at ease seeing volunteers from Trout Unlimited and Detroit Metro Steelheaders on hand to assist participants with their fishing gear and help unhook fish.
Each derby session rounded out with every kid walking away with a raffle prize that included tackle boxes, fishing nets, hats, and over 60 slightly used rods and reel combos donated by Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World.
If you missed the derby, no need to worry, there are still plenty of trout swimming the river in Auburn Hills, thanks to the generous donations made by Detroit Metro Steelheaders, Clinton Valley Trout Unlimited, and General Towing.
