Auburn Hills Lights Up Downtown in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

For some, October signals a change to the autumn season and everything that comes along with it, from Halloween to the changing colors of our trees’ leaves. Although, for many others, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every October, people all over the world show their support for everyone affected by breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in 1985 by the American Cancer Society and the company, AstraZeneca, who aim to promote mammography and other forms of early detection as the most effective means of fighting breast cancer. The awareness because of Breast Cancer Awareness Month has brought about real change in the fight against breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer death rates declined by 40% from 1989 to 2016 among women.

The City of Auburn Hills will be joining all of those who recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month by lighting up the elevated planters in our downtown in a pink glow during the month of October.

So, pick a wonderful October evening this fall and take a stroll among the vegetation awash in a pink light while you visit the businesses in Downtown Auburn Hills.
