Rededication of Manitoba Park

As we come upon National “Take Your Parents to the Playground” day this Sunday, it was the perfect time to celebrate the Rededication of Manitoba Park!  Manitoba Park is one of the City’s neighborhood parks in northern Auburn Hills on Manitoba Road.  Previously, Manitoba Park had a toddler play structure for ages 2 – 5, picnic tables, a sand volleyball court, and a repurposed paved “fun and fit” court.  In 2020, local residents requested upgrades to this neighborhood park, and plans were set in motion to make some additions.  New amenities include a swing set for ages 2 – 12, a climber for ages 5 – 12, removal of the asphalt pad, a small shade shelter, and a grill.

On Thursday, May 12th, Manitoba Park was rededicated and opened to the children of Auburn Hills.  Councilmember Cheryl Verbeke spoke on behalf of the City, remarking about the park upgrades, and refreshments were served after, including cake, sandwiches and lemonade.  It was a beautiful, sunny, day, and children were excited to climb and play on the new equipment.

Councilmembers Henry Knight, Brian Marzolf, Cheryl Verbeke, Eugene Hawkins and Tim Carrier, and Recreation Director Sage Hegdal cut the ribbon with neighborhood children.

Remember, it’s National “Take Your Parents to the Playground” day this Sunday, so we hope to see you at one of our six City playgrounds this weekend!
