2023 Auburn Hills DPW Public Infrastructure Projects

On this 80-degree day, it’s finally possibly to believe that spring is here to stay. The warm weather carries the scent of lilacs, tulips, and… asphalt! As all of us Michiganders know, May is the start of construction season. Our Department of Public Works has infrastructure projects planned for 2023 that will continue to improve travel on our roads.

Some of the major road construction projects that you will be seeing this year in Auburn Hills include:

  • The Lapeer Connector Roundabout project was delayed from 2022 and is currently underway. The new roundabout will be located at the intersection of Phillips Road and Shimmons Road and have a new connection to Lapeer Road (M-24) replacing the current connection to the North. Estimated completion is July 2023.
  • Harmon Road will be milled and resurfaced with new asphalt beginning late May 2023 and will include minor storm and curb repairs, a new right turn lane at Atlantic Boulevard, and some pathway connections.  Traffic will be one way eastbound with the posted detour being north on Lapeer Road (M-24), west on Brown Road, and south on Joslyn Road.
  • The 2023 Paving Program includes the removal and replacement of five inches of asphalt pavement for the Canadian and Paramount Estates subdivisions. Included in the project are some minor storm and curb repairs, road connections of Calgary and Alpeana Roads, and redesigned parking for Manitoba Park.  This project is estimated to begin mid-May.
  • The 2023 Road Rehabilitation project includes a chip and slurry seal to add service to asphalt roadways. This year’s project will include Commonwealth and Waukegan Roads.

For a full list of DPW projects, please visit the Current Projects page at auburnhills.org. Each project includes a brief overview, the project status, anticipated timeline, and point of contact. Please be aware that weather and other forces can impact the timelines for these projects, so the timelines are subject to change. The DPW will also continue maintaining and managing most of the City’s other public infrastructure, so if you notice a problem, feel free to give us a call at 248-391-3777.
