On Saturday evening, September 24 I had the privilege of attending the Detroit Design Center’s sculpture unveilings. Designed and created by the Nordin Brothers, Eric and Israel, these sculptures are commissioned by various communities and organizations throughout Michigan, and most notably, in southeast Michigan. While a couple of the pieces on display that evening have already been installed such as ours in Auburn Hills, others were being unveiled (in miniature) for the first time and will have their installations sometime in the near future. Auburn Hills is making public art an integral part of the growth of our downtown.
This is the third sculpture to be added to our downtown after the installation of two other pieces. The first, “Continuum”, was designed and created by Auburn Hills Sculptor Eric Gorges, host of A Craftsman’s Legacy on PBS. It is located at the north end of the Riverside Park Plaza. The second is the intricate archway over the alley just west of North Squirrel Road on the north side of Auburn Road and was designed and created by Tom Hoyt. And most recently, the Nordin Brothers have created “Ascension”, located on the south end of the Riverside Park Plaza.

We invite everyone to visit downtown Auburn Hills and to experience the collection.
